Today's word "creativity" sounds almost everywhere.

It is sought after in schools and universities. It is sought after by employers. It is called one of the most important skills of the 21st century.

But lately, I've been increasingly concerned with another question.

Is it enough to just be creative?

Does every new idea make the world a better place?

Does any invention move humanity forward?

Does any creativity help a person become wiser?

It seems to me that the future needs more than just creativity.

He needs wise creativity.

Are people born creative?

You can often hear:

— I have no creative abilities.

— This is not given to everyone.

— I can't make up stories.

But is creativity really a talent that only a select few get?

The more years I work with students, the less I believe in this.

I think people are not born creative.

They are born curious.

A small child explores the world, asks hundreds of questions, tries, makes mistakes, builds, destroys, and builds again.

It is curiosity that becomes the small seed from which creativity gradually grows.

To see what has not been seen before

Leonardo da Vinci spent hours watching birds in flight.

He didn't just want to draw beautiful wings.

He was interested in understanding, How nature created flight.

A century later, the Wright brothers asked the question:

"What if humans could fly too?"

All great discoveries began this way.

Not from the answer.

And not even by invention.

And from careful observation and a bold question.

Create something that didn't exist yet

It is often said that creativity is the ability to combine already known ideas.

There is truth in this.

But I think there is another level.

Not just putting together a new picture from familiar puzzles.

And to come up with a puzzle that hasn't existed before.

This is how discoveries are born.

New directions in art.

New technologies.

New ways of thinking.

This is how humanity moves forward.

The courage to be first

Perhaps the most difficult thing in creativity is not coming up with a new idea.

The hardest thing is to dare to show it.

After all, no one can guarantee that you will be understood immediately.

Pablo Picasso's paintings have caused controversy.

Maria Primachenko's fantastic beasts were unlike anyone else's.

Many inventions seemed impossible at the time.

Everything new seems unusual at first.

That's why creativity requires more than just imagination.

It requires courage.

Feel deeper.

Notice what previously went unnoticed.

Sometimes what we create is not what is most important.

And what we became while we were creating.

Therefore, there is no such thing as a futile creative search.

Any experience becomes part of our inner world.

It is from him that one day something truly new is born.

The most important choice

Today the world is changing rapidly.

Artificial intelligence already helps write texts, create music, analyze information, design, and program.

Maybe tomorrow he will learn even more.

But there is a choice that will always remain with the person.

In what direction should you use your knowledge?

What to create?

And which one should you leave behind?

Every new idea opens up new possibilities.

But at the same time, it also opens up a new responsibility.

Wise creativity

It seems to me that wise creativity is not about striving to change the world in any way.

And not necessarily a desire to create something brilliant.

It is the willingness to take the next step in the right direction.

For some, such a step will be the discovery of a new law of nature.

For some, it's a picture.

For some, it's a fairy tale.

For some, it's a teaching method.

For someone, it's a conversation that will help another person believe in themselves.

We rarely know which step will turn out to be the most important.

But every honest creative search leaves behind experience.

And experience gradually turns into wisdom.

The biggest secret

Perhaps the real secret to creativity is not in constantly inventing new things.

And it's not even about creating something big.

It lies in something else.

Don't lose your curiosity.

Never cease to be amazed.

Don't be afraid to try.

Don't stop after failures.

And take another step each time.

After all, humanity is not only developed by great discoveries.

It is developed by millions of small creative steps.

The future begins today

I don't know what the world will be like in fifty years.

Perhaps artificial intelligence will learn to perform almost any intellectual work.

But I believe that there will always be something that cannot be transferred to any machine.

Curiosity.

Love.

Conscience.

Responsibility.

Wisdom.

And the ability to make moral choices.

It is the person who decides what the next step will be.

It is she who determines the direction of development of civilization.

That's why it's so important today to teach more than just creativity.

Need to teach wise creativity.

One that doesn't stop at the question:

"What new things can I create?"

And he also asks:

"What will this journey teach me?"

"What kind of person will I become?"

And only then:

"What will the world be like after my idea comes to life?"

I think this is the real secret of wise creativity.

Perhaps the most valuable result of creativity is not a new invention, not a painting. and not a book. The most valuable thing is the person we become while we create.
