How to find your style

In our search for ourselves, we follow different paths. Every day we make choices, discover new things, let go of what no longer resonates, and gradually get closer to what is truly ours.

This is how one's own style in art is born.

Where to start if you haven't found your drawing style yet?

I would advise you to first find what you like the most. Something that your soul responds to, that causes admiration, joy, or a desire to look at it again and again.

Today, you can find thousands of paintings on the Internet. Take your time. Look carefully and listen to your feelings.

Try to understand which direction in art is closer to you. Maybe it's realism, impressionism, surrealism, abstraction, or decorative art. Don't choose what's currently fashionable. Choose what arouses sincere admiration in you.

Once you find your direction, look for artists whose work particularly moves you. Those whose paintings you want to look at again and again, studying every detail.

Try to understand what exactly attracts you. Is it color? Composition? Line? Light? Images? Mood? Or perhaps the artist's ability to tell stories through the language of painting?

Learn more about this artist. Read his biography, watch interviews if there are any. If possible, visit an exhibition or museum, because no reproduction can convey the true impression of a living painting.

If an artist is teaching, try to learn from him. A good teacher can give much more than just professional knowledge. At the same time, remember: it is worth adopting skill, diligence, attention to detail, but always remain yourself.

Look at as much of his work as possible. Try to understand how he thinks, how he builds a composition, and how he works with color and form.

After that, try to make a copy of your favorite work. Not to become the second such artist, but to understand his creative language. Don't be afraid if you want to change something. It's natural.

And then put the sample aside and write your own picture.

This is where the most interesting part begins.

Don't rush to find originality. It's rarely born on purpose. Your own style gradually develops from everything you love, what you admire, what you've learned, and what you've experienced. It grows with you.

And, perhaps, the most important thing. Style is not only a special manner of drawing. It is a reflection of the inner world of the artist. Two people can be equally good at the technique, but create completely different paintings. Because each of us sees the world in our own way.

So don't just look for your style. Look for yourself.

That's when your work will become truly recognizable.
