Children's fairy tales

Story from “My Road to Myself”

I don't know if all children like fairy tales. I think they do.

But, probably, every adult keeps their own special fairy tale in their heart. The one they once listened to with bated breath. Or the one that still helps them believe in goodness.

My love for fairy tales was given to me by my grandfather Vasyl.

He was a true storyteller. He didn't read from a book, but made up stories on the fly. It seemed like they were born by themselves. One after another.

What I loved most were the moments when my grandfather suddenly asked:

— And what happened next?

And then I could invent the sequel. For a little girl, it was a real miracle. It was as if I was becoming a co-author of the fairy tale.

At that time, I didn't know that years would pass and I would be writing fairy tales for children myself.

Perhaps it is from those warm evenings that I have the belief that even the most difficult stories can have a happy ending. Not because it always happens. But because it is this kind of belief that helps people find the strength to move on.

Thank you, dear grandfather.

I really want to believe that each of my fairy tales is a small continuation of the stories you once gave me.
